Holiday Activities

Whilst in Berwang there is plenty of time to have a holiday as well as taking part in the musical activities. In Berwang itself you can pamper yourself in the Singer Hotel Spa, go walking in the mountains (or take a ski lift), hire a mountain bike, play Crazy Golf, enjoy the local cake shop or simply sit and enjoy the scenery.
We also organise a number of excursions during the fortnight. Here are some examples of the places we can visit:

Castles such as those at Neuschwanstein, Linderhof and Hohenschwangau
Churches and Monasteries such as at Wies and Ettal; also many of the villages surrounding Berwang have beautiful small churches and chapels
Places that have a musical connection such as Salzburg (Mozart's birthplace), Garmish-Partenkirken (home to Richard Strauss) and Mittenwald (a centre for string instrument making)
Mountains and lakes including Germany's highest mountain - the Zugspitze, an alpine gardens, Heiterwangersee, Plansee, Eibsee and Riessersee.
Towns and villages of interest for their history, geography, tourist attractions and shopping facilities, such as Inssbruck, Fussen and Oberammergau
Other places of interest such as Swarovski Crystal World
We also visit Small villages and hamlets in the Berwang area.
There are also a number of entertainments laid on during the course such as:

Special Dinners - for example a Farmers' Buffet. This is a sight to behold and to be tasted. A wonderful, decorative display of traditional Austrian food, both hot & cold, savoury and sweet.
A kitchen party - when, before dinner, we don small chef's hats and tour the Singer Hotel kitchens sampling delicious and varied, hot and cold hors d'ouvres with one hand and drinking from a glass or wine with the other. During the tour we are also introduced to the kitchen staff.
1 or 2 Happy hours - are also before dinner and generally last about 45 minutes! Drinks from the Singer Hotel bar are half price and gives us the opportunity to meet and chat about the day's events.
Jodel & Zither Evening - after-dinner entertainment, provided by Englebert and Erwin playing accordion and zither whilst dressed in traditional lederhosen. The evening includes our own Jodel Competition, involving attempts by some members of the course who volunteer (or are volunteered!) to copy the experts. The competition is judged by Englebert and Erwin who are looking for the best, or bravest, efforts.
On a suitably fine morning we have an al fresco breakfast. A typical meal includes cheeses, cured meats/sausages, eggs and freshly-baked bread rolls, and is generally rounded off with a small glass of schnapps!
